How SLO Active Are Saving Our Oceans

As soon as I saw an email in my inbox from the lovely women at SLO Active, I was excited. This brand is all about the environment, ethics and equality – issues I am very passionate about.

In a society which is driven by consumerism, it is so refreshing to come across a company that places profit as a lesser priority than its goals. I was intrigued.

As soon as you open their website and scroll down, you will see this:

This company ticks all of the boxes for people trying to save the planet and not sacrifice their wardrobe, a position we should all be placing ourselves in.

Here Janaya, the company's founder, tells me a bit more about the company and how they plan to change the game when it comes to swimwear.

Hi Janaya! Thank you for letting me interview you for World Oceans Day. I think it's so important to promote ethical companies such as yours on this platform.

First of all, what inspired you to not only support ocean conservation, but set up a company which strives to do so?

For those who are fairly unaware, can you talk a bit about why we should be concerned about the conservation of our oceans?

Your swimwear is made from a sustainable alternative, how are you ensuring that it is also made in an ethical environment?

I love your statement about 'slow fashion,' as a student, I definitely struggle to avoid the bigger companies as they are often cheaper. What advice would you give to someone wanting to make a difference, but struggling financially?

How are you guaranteeing that your brand is as inclusive as possible, especially in regards to varying body shapes and sizes?

Other than purchasing from your brand, how can we as consumers help with ocean conservation?

Finally, the theme of this World Oceans Day is gender equality. From a woman running a company to the women reading this, is there anything you'd like to advise/say?

Thank you so much, Janaya, for letting me interview you! I hope this inspires some of you to look a bit more into how we can be protecting our oceans. You can look at their website here, which gives lots of information about plastic pollution and how they're spreading the word about their cause.
