Why We Should Watch "Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile"

This film has received criticism for many things - glorification, sexualising and ultimately providing attention to horrific crimes that we do not need to reminded of.

I can understand why glorification may come to mind when you watch this film. Ted Bundy, a man who committed unthinkable crimes and brutally put young women to their death is portrayed by Zac Efron, who is undeniably a very attractive actor.

However, I would argue that despite this choice sexualising Bundy, this instead results in the point of the film being enforced - it is a warning.

I think we all instantly place the title of monster upon a person who has committed brutal crimes. Yes, these people deserve to have this title but this results in us dehumanising them, resultantly forgetting that these are real people with real minds, who are capable of such things.

We forget that some people surrounding us, attractive or not, are capable of brutality and this makes us vulnerable.

The penultimate moments of the film are extremely shocking, especially when real clips are shown of the actual people involved in the case. Young women, of a similar age as me, are interviewed on why they went to watch the case. They said that Bundy was attractive, and there was no way that he could do such a thing.
